Knocking about Johor Bahru

Early this morning, we walked around the golf course just before sunrise, looking for monitor lizards - didn't see any, but took this cool sunrise picture of the hotel and the treeline at sunrise.

Yesterday was shopping day. Went to a couple of malls in JB - older Asian style has lots of small shops and small hallways. Western style had big atriums and familiar chain brand stores. Had lunch at the food court. The proprietor was quite gregarious and would sing a little song as an advertisement to eat there. "Meat on a stick" - mine was chicken, not into the baby octupus, thanks.

D. does a wonderful job jockeying around the road system. The U-turn system and the flyovers, motosikals whizzing past. Kind of like a video game, with more dire consequences for mistakes.

I got a haircut at the mall - 38 MYR - did a good job, all scissors, no clippers. We chatted about music - my hairdresser recommends Kuala Lumpur as a place to see music in Malaysia. I ended up just buying a sun hat in the golf shop here at Pulai Springs - there really isn't an REI equivalent nearby. Oh, and we bought maps - always a good information, and a cool souvenir as well.

Tomorrow is go to Borneo day.
